Hong kong International Airport to Begin Three-run

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world-class airport and the air cargo center for Asia is expanding into a three-runway system. The airport’s existing two-runway system is likely to reach full capacity by the next couple of years, highlighting the pressing need to expand as soon as possible, authorities said. The construction of HKIA’s three-runway system is expected to take eight years to be completed.

Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), underscored the importance of HKIA’s extensive flight network connecting many parts of the world. He stressed that the sooner the three-runway system project begins, the stronger Hong Kong’s connections to “One Belt, One Road” regions will be.

“One Belt, One Road” is a framework proposed by the People’s Republic of China that focuses on the development strategy for a sturdy connectivity and cooperation among countries in Europe and Asia. Authorities claimed that the creation of the three-runway system will certainly meet the increasing aviation demand in the region.
